History of the Netherlands national football team
The Netherlands played their first international game against Belgium on April 30, 1905, at Antwerp, which marked the beginning of the history of the Netherlands national football team. The Dutch team won the Coupe Vanden Abeele after scoring three goals in extra time to make the final score 4-1 in their favor.
In 1934, Italy, the Netherlands national football team participated in their first FIFA World Cup. The Dutch have participated in the most World Cup finals without ever taking home the trophy. In the World Cups of 1974, 1978, and 2010, they came in second place and fell to West Germany, Argentina, and Spain, respectively. They triumphed in the 1988 UEFA European Championship.
