Members of parliament are calling on higher education institutions to stop actively recruiting students from abroad in the hopes that this will lessen the influx of internationals as universities struggle to keep up with the rapidly rising numbers - lecture halls aren't big enough to accommodate all the students, and the housing shortage leaves internationals without anywhere to live.

Robbert Dijkgraaf, the minister of education, culture, and science, has promised to offer a strategy to address the problem in February, but the parliament demands action now. They want Dutch universities to stop participating in university and career fairs overseas and stop advertising to potential students abroad.
