New records are set for tourists in the Netherlands. Really?
The summer break for students is included in the third quarter. Foreign visitors increased to 5.4 million, up from 2.4 million in the third quarter of 2021 when travel restrictions were still in effect, while the number of British visitors increased by a factor of seven to 464,000. As travel restrictions were loosened, the number of tourists from Australia and Oceania increased by nearly 500%.
However, the statistics show that there are still more than 700,000 fewer international visitors than there were before the outbreak. 9.2 million locals who stayed at least one night in a vacation rental in the Netherlands make up the majority of the total. The war in Ukraine, high inflation, and the potential for a new coronavirus epidemic, according to the Dutch tourism authority, are all expected to continue to affect forecasts for visitor numbers and travel arrangements.
Compared to almost 46 million in 2019, it was predicted that this year only 12 million foreign and 24 million Dutch tourists would spend at least one night away from home in the Netherlands.
